It’s available in colors like Crystal Purple and Midnight Blue, and the design skews young without veering gaudy.
It’s just 185g 8.1mm thick, although both of these measurements are slightly overshadowed by greater portability and durability. The phone is comfortable to hold and feels lightweight in the hand. On the right edge, there is a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, built into the power button, which is quick and professionally facilitates unlocking of the phone.
Even though the build is plastic, Vivo has put in quite an effort to make it feel sturdy and well-made.
Display: Immersive, Bright, Shiny and Smooth
On the front, the device features a 6.72-inch Full HD+ LCD display bearing 120Hz refresh rate. The colour reproduction and sharpness on the display aren’t bad either.
We have a higher refresh rate, which makes the scrolling through apps or social feeds feel buttery smooth.
So not an AMOLED panel, or inky blacks or high contrast here, but for the price its screen performs admirably. Brightness is decent under a variety of lighting conditions, outdoors in indirect sunlight included.
Performance: Dependable for Daily Use
The Vivo Y39 5G is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ processor, designed to fit routine activities. The phone is a great performer, whether browsing, using social media or playing mild games.
With 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage (expandable through a microSD card), it runs smoothly with little lag.
You’re also getting Virtual RAM Expansion for improved multitasking, handy if you flip between apps regularly. Games such as Free Fire and Subway Surfers run smoothly on medium not for long gaming hours.
The phone is running Funtouch OS 14, based on Android 14, which feels lighter and snappier than its predecessors. It is quite clean with some bloatware, but the UI is fast and smooth to use and navigate.
Cameras: Decent in the Daytime, Scanty at Night
The Y39 5G is equipped with 50MP main camera and 2MP depth sensor for photography. Photos shot in daylight are pleasant and balanced, with decent color and dynamic range. The AI mode aids in scene detection and subtle image improvements.
For portraits, subject separation is good, but edge detection is not always spot on. Performance takes a dive in low-light, with more noise and softness in photos. The Night Mode brightens up the scene, but it is not miracle working.
It’s good for video calls and social media, and we were happy with the 8MP front camera, which delivered balanced, relatively natural-looking selfies.
Battery life: Not an issue here.
The battery life is yet another area where the Y39 5G has its strength. The 5000mAh battery lasts long enough to get you through the day of moderate use — browsing, streaming, chatting, playing games off and on.
Better still, the phone supports 44W fast-charging, so you’ll reach 50% in around 30 minutes. That’s a godsend for those always on-the-go.
Connectivity and Extras
The big news here is 5G support, so you’ll be future-proofed for fast networks. Other features include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, USB Type-C and a 3.5mm audio jack. It also comes with water-repellant coating IP52, which provides some resistance from light rain as well as from accidental spills.
