Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G: When it comes to mid-range phones, many people expect concessions from a smartphopne — maybe an okay design, alright specs, and cameras that just get the job done. But Tecno, with its Camon 20 Pro 5G, might be rewriting that script.
This device offers a striking design, strong internals, and even a polished user experience that justifies its cost without burning a hole in your wallet.
Bold Looks That Turn Heads
Just before we get started, we have to admit, the design of the Camon 20 Pro 5G is really an attention-grabbing one. The back panel has this interesting geometric pattern inspired by leather texture that gives it the premium and arty feel.
It’s a design that screams “I’m not a look-alike glass slab,” even in a sea of other look-alike glass slabs.
It’s a well-made device that actually feels pretty solid in the hand. It is also sleek and relatively lightweight, so it is easy to maneuver for one-handed use. Tecno should be given some credit here — you don’t often find this level of style in this price range.
Display: Bright, Smooth and Punchy
The phone features a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. …and that means scrolling feels effortless, and everything from Instagram feeds to games look smooth and responsive. Colours are rich, blacks are inky and sunlight visibility is surprisingly good.
The screen is great for binge-watching shows or gaming. The bezels are thin, and there’s a centered punch-hole camera that helps to give the screen as much room as possible.
Operational Performance, Use Every Day
Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G gets its fuel from the MediaTek Dimensity 8050 CPU which is accompanied by 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of internal storage. For everyday stuff — social media, streaming, multitasking — it runs like a dream with little hiccupping.
Gaming? No biggie for light to medium use. It can run games such as PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty and Asphalt 9 on medium settings. It may not be a hardcore gaming phone, but for most people, it does the job.
It also supports virtual RAM, so when you’re multitasking, it can scrounge some memory from storage to keep things snappy.
Software: Clean, With Helpful Extras
The phone boots HiOS 13 which is based on Android 13. It’s not stock Android, but it’s certainly come a long way over previous iterations. You’ll also get a handful of bonuses like smart panel, peek-proof screen and a built-in phone cleaner.
There is some bloatware, but at least it’s sparse — and the interface is snappy and up-to-date. You’ll receive regular updates, too, which isn’t always a given at this price range.
Cameras: Surprisingly Capable
The Camon 20 Pro 5G features a 64MP main camera with OIS, a 2MP depth sensor as well as an AI lens. Daylight shots are rich and detailed. OIS makes sure your shots are steady, especially in low light or when the camera is less stable.
Portraits are just fine, and edge detection works well enough. Low-light performance isn’t perfect, but Night Mode will allow you to brighten things up without introducing too much noise.
The 32MP selfie shooter is another plus, clicking sharp selfies with pretty good color accuracy. By default, beauty mode is aggressive, although you can dial it down so photos look more natural.
Power up All Day: All-Day Confidence
The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. With moderate use you can easily make it through the day. (Arthurian our battery packs are not quite yet.) Social, gaming, media-shares, streaming — it can handle the works without whimpering for a charger come bedtime.
The charging speed is solid, too; 30 minutes of quick charging provides you with hours of juice.
Pros:
Leather-textured design that looks great in your hand
Smooth 120Hz AMOLED display
Trustworthy Dimensity 8050 performance
Excellent selfie camera
Good battery life with 33W fast charging
Affordable 5G option
Cons:
Some pre-installed bloatware
No ultra-wide camera
Low light photography is not so good
HiOS remains rough around the edges as we’ve come to expect from HiOS versus stock Android
Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G Final Verdict: Some Style With Your Value
As would any consumer looking for something a bit different, something stylish, snappy and loaded with value. It’s not trying to be a flagship, but it offers enough performance and camera quality to satisfy most users.
If you’re budget-conscious but don’t want a phone that feels boring or slow, this one merits a close look.
